Staying healthy begins with taking care of yourself. And that means eating a healthy diet every day that allows you to maintain a healthy weight. We’ve put together some great tips to help you focus on healthy eating in 2019.
- Keep fruits, low-fat dairy products, fresh vegetables, and whole-grain foods in the fridge and pantry.
- Eat chicken, seafood, and lean meats prepared without heavy sauces or frying. Bake, broil, grill, or slow-cook instead.
- Use fresh herbs and spices, lemon, and lime to add flavor to foods.
- Use Extra-Virgin Olive Oil for a ‘healthy fat’.
- Replace condiments like ketchup, barbeque sauce, and others that contain sugar and add empty calories.
- Pack a healthy lunch and snacks for work to better control what you eat. Planning is key to success.
- Portion out snacks instead of eating from a larger package.
- Choose fruit. Although fruit does contain juice, it’s natural juice and not refined sugar.
- Enjoy nuts. Nuts are a great source of protein and energy and walnuts, almonds, and pistachios are good choices (avoid cashews which are higher in fat).
- Don’t skip or delay meals and don’t wait until you’re ‘starving’ to eat. You’ll likely over-eat. Again, plan your meals and snacks for the day.
- Drink plenty of water – it’s good for you and it keeps you from feeling hungry. Double the benefits!
- Avoid artificial sweeteners and diet sodas which can actually make you crave more sugar, and may even make you gain weight.
